How APABET SAFEZONE handles your personal data. Last updated: 7 October 2026.
Who is responsible for your data: Apabet Consulting Limited (RC 7096120), No 1 Alor Street, FHA, Karu Site, Abuja, Nigeria. We are the data controller for APABET SAFEZONE.
Data Protection Contact: Amos Itodo, apabetconsulting@gmail.com
1. What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal data APABET SAFEZONE (the "app", "we", "us") collects, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what rights you have under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. We try to collect as little as we need.
2. What we collect and why
| Data | When | What we use it for | Our lawful basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display name or callsign (not necessarily your real name) | When you start training | Shown on the leaderboard for the adult categories, and in on-screen messages. Stored with your score, category and date. | Your consent |
| Training progress and scores | As you play | Kept on your own device so your progress is remembered. Scores for adult categories are also sent to the shared leaderboard. | Your consent |
| Name as it should appear on your certificate, email address, category and level | When you claim a certificate | To create your certificate and email it to you, to prevent the same certificate being issued twice, and to answer questions about it. | Performance of our agreement with you (the certificate you ask for); your consent for free certificates |
| Payment reference, transaction ID, amount and date | When you pay for a certificate | To confirm your payment, issue your receipt, handle refunds and keep financial records. We never see or store your card or bank details; the payment provider handles them. | Performance of our agreement; legal obligation to keep financial records |
| Organisation licence code and your email | If you use a licence code from your organisation | To check the code is valid, count its use against your organisation's allowance and issue your certificate. | Performance of our agreement with your organisation and you |
| Feedback you type | If you send feedback | To improve questions and the app. Stored with your category, score and date. For the children's categories we store the feedback without a name. Please do not put personal details in feedback. | Your consent; our legitimate interest in improving the service |
| Anonymous usage counts | When you open the app or start a category | We count visits and category starts (date and time only) to see which training is used. No name or email is attached. | Our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used |
| Technical logs (such as IP address) | Whenever you use the site | Our hosting and cloud providers record these routinely for security and to keep the service running. We do not use them to identify you. | Our legitimate interest in security and reliability |
We do not use advertising or marketing trackers. We do not sell your data. We do not make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects. We do not send marketing emails; the emails we send are your certificate and receipt.
3. Children
People under 18 may use only the Basic Security and First Aid for Kids categories, and only with a parent, legal guardian, teacher or other responsible adult supervising them. The other categories are intended for people aged 18 and over.
For the children's categories, we:
- do not put scores or names on the public leaderboard;
- do not attach a name to feedback or usage counts;
- ask that a parent, guardian or supervising adult enters their own email address and confirms the details when a certificate is claimed.
The supervising adult is giving consent on the child's behalf. If you believe a child's personal data has reached us without adult supervision, or you want it deleted, email apabetconsulting@gmail.com and we will act on it promptly.
4. Who we share data with
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Google (Firebase) hosts our databases and the functions that issue certificates. It also supplies the code library the app uses to talk to those databases. Data may be stored in Google data centres in Europe and the United States.
- Flutterwave processes card and bank payments. When you pay, you are taken to Flutterwave's page and its own privacy terms apply there.
- SendGrid (Twilio) delivers certificate and receipt emails.
- Netlify hosts the website.
We share information with the authorities only where the law requires it. Some of these providers are outside Nigeria. Where data is transferred abroad, we rely on those providers' contractual and security safeguards.
The leaderboard for adult categories is public: anyone using the app can see the display name, score, category and date shown on it.
5. How long we keep data
- On your device: until you clear your browser's site data.
- Leaderboard entries and feedback: until we clear them or you ask us to remove them.
- Certificate and payment records: for as long as needed to verify and reissue certificates, deal with disputes, and meet legal requirements for financial records.
- Anonymous usage counts: kept in aggregate form, as they identify no one.
6. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you have the right to:
- be told what we hold about you and get a copy;
- have mistakes corrected;
- have your data deleted, or its use restricted, in the circumstances the law provides;
- object to our use of your data, and withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect what we did before you withdrew);
- receive your data in a portable format where the law allows;
- complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng) if you think we have handled your data wrongly. We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.
To use any of these rights, email apabetconsulting@gmail.com. We may need to confirm who you are before acting. We aim to reply within 30 days. Some records, such as payment records, we may be required by law to keep.
Your display name on the leaderboard is held in a shared database. If you want it removed, tell us the name, category and approximate date and we will delete it.
7. Security
The app and its functions are served over HTTPS. Payment details are handled by the payment provider and never pass through our systems. Access to our databases is restricted. No online service is completely secure. If a breach affects your personal data in a way that is likely to harm you, we will notify you and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission as the law requires.
8. Cookies and local storage
The app does not set cookies. It does store some information in your browser to remember your progress. See our Cookies Policy.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how we use personal data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app.
